1) What do rolling shutters do?
Rolling shutters provide the best hurricane protection available on the market.  They are specifically designed to protect windows, doors, patios, sliding doors, or other exposed openings in a home from damaging winds, storm-induced flying debris and turbulent rains.

2) Who uses rolling shutters?
Hurricane window protection is a must for homeowners living in coastal cities and states. While mostly prevalent in coastal areas, rolling shutters are gaining popularity nationwide for the additional benefits they provide, for example: home security, shading, energy efficiency, noise reduction, comfort and privacy.

3) How do they work?
Rolling shutters use a series of slats that create a shutter curtain. The curtain, when rolled up, is designed to coil and conceal securely into a box-housing that complements the exterior finish of the home for storage. The curtain, when rolled down, is guided by way of tracks or side rails. Rolling shutters can be operated via electric motors, manual gears or a pull-tape system.

4) Can I put rolling shutters on an existing home?
Yes. Rolling shutters are easy to install on any existing residential or vacation home. They can be applied to nearly all brick, stone, stucco, or siding exterior finishes. For a truly out of sight appearance, integrate rolling shutters into the design or construction phase of a home for a remarkable effect.

5) Why do rolling shutters go on the outside of the home?
Rolling shutters are designed as an exterior shading mechanism. By placing the shutters on the outside of a home, when rolled down, the shutters block U.V. rays and  wind from direct contact with your home’s window or interior, providing top-quality insulation. What’s more rolling shutters are the perfect solution for protecting the glass on your windows and doors from unwanted intruders, rain, snow, hail or flying debris.

6) I understand rolling shutters can cool a home in the summer, so can they keep a home warm in the winter?
Yes. In the winter rolling shutters help keep the cold out. You will be surprised at how much heat you will be able to keep in your home while keeping the cold out. So whether it is summer or winter, rolling shutters can considerably reduce your homes energy consumption.

7) Do your shutters come in standard sizes or are they custom made to order?
Rollac has over 30 years experience in manufacturing rolling shutter solutions that are custom made to suit our customer’s necessities and specifications.  Every shutter is cut to size and assembled by hand to precisely fit the requirements of any home or project.

8) Is there a size limit for a shutter?
The size limit on average is 12 to 15 feet in width and 10 to 12 feet in height.  In spite of this, please let us know what you need; Rollac is always happy to make every attempt to satisfy our customer’s needs and take on the challenges of special requests.

9) What is the life of a rolling shutter?
Our exterior rolling shutters are usually a -once-in-a-lifetime purchase designed to last around 20-25 years. Made to withstand the natural environment, Rollac uses high grade aluminum with superior finishes that are highly resistant to corrosion, and U.V. degradation.

10) How much energy do rolling shutters save?
Rollac shutters are supplied in a range of sizes, materials and finishes and can certainly provide significant savings on energy bills. Closing a roller shutter immediately places a physical barrier between hot and cold surfaces. We have chosen materials that are not only robust and aesthetically pleasing; we intentionally use the best technology available to ensure our shutters are effective thermal barriers. So whether you are keeping warm in the winter or cool in the summer, our roller shutters will assist in maintaining that temperature for less energy cost than glazing alone. In addition, sunlight can be blocked from exposed windows and reduce the air conditioning load. The actual amount saved will vary depending on the type of installation (e.g. whether automation is included) situation and use, but the savings will be noticeable on any energy bill.

11) How much control do I have over the finish of my rolling shutters?
Customers can choose from a wide selection of appropriate colors intended to match architecture materials and common color schemes. We can supply a color finish to almost any specification however and encourage customers to select colors that will complement the architecture of their homes or buildings. We have installed many thousands of roller shutters and so our design experts have plenty of experience and will help customers find a suitable color scheme should they need guidance. Environmental factors and security requirements can also influence the surface finish but the full range of colors is still available.
